Our dolomite contains 20.6 percent calcium (Ca), 11.85 percent magnesium (Mg) and has a neutralizing value of 103.24. The major attraction of dolomite is that it contains magnesium which is deficient in Kerala soils. Burnt lime does not contain magnesium.

Dolomite can be applied directly to the soil as it is powdered while the burnt lime needs to be powdered with water. Another advantage is that dolomite is less expensive than burnt lime; hence dolomite has two purposes: the correction of acidity and the enrichment of magnesium (Mg).
